If, Will

If I let you read what you write,
Will you see it through my eyes?

If the sun instead shone tonight,
And the cricket simply sighs,
Will you hear the scream of unmoving mouths?

Will you paint the walls with pink and white,
Or scrape it off and chip it dry?

If this is a fork along the route,
Do we go alone? Together? Left or right?

If a moon’s trip has passed and gone,
Will the ground be smooth, cracked or rough?

If silence turned to whispers,
and whispers turned to words,
Will there be a ring or a curved-up line?
