If You Forget Me by Pablo Neruda

“. . .If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots shall set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.”

If I had no hand to hold yours with,
I’d link arms with you instead.
If I had no arms to link with yours,
I’d kiss you twice the more.
If I had no lips to kiss yours with,
I’d wink at you like they used to do
In old black and white films, when
Every man was a gentleman,
Every woman was passionate,
And every love lasted forever.
Sometimes.

But I do have lips
And I do have arms
And I do have hands
And I will wear them all out on you.

Pablo Neruda

Hi boys.

“Would it get me to stop being upset by reminding me that men still find me attractive, that I still have some kind of worth in this world, as judged by others? There are so many other, more tangible things to tell me about myself.

I don’t want my own beauty to be some kind of escape from the real problems of my life — the ones that beg real solutions and real work. I don’t need you to validate these things with my skin, or my hair, or my bone structure. I was doing just fine before that, even if I thought I was ugly.”

I’m not generalizing, though. I’m just saying it’s true in some cases. And it’s something girls should think about.

A Long Long Time Ago

A long long time ago,

you didn’t need a body.

You played amongst the stars, happy and free;

long before bodies were ever invented.

Things That Fall…

teardrops,

snowflakes,

rain,

tides,

time,

shadows,

leaves,

the sun,

and I,

for you.
